University of Miskolc | The “spirit” of the chemical industry – Chemical Industry Career Orientation Day

--

The event promoting the chemical industry career model has been organized since 2017 by the university’s Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Informatics and the Faculty of Materials and Chemical Engineering at the initiative of MOL Petrolkémia, BorsodChem and the KISS Group of Companies. This year, a record number of nearly 800 secondary and primary school students from 30 educational institutions of the county came to the University City for the event, realized in cooperation with the Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BOKIK).

The leading chemical companies of the Northern Hungarian region can develop if the University of Miskolc can continuously provide them with supplies. This is why chemical engineering training, a master’s degree and chemical engineering specialization were started

– reminded the rector of the university, Prof. Dr. Zita Horváth, at the opening of VEPONA. At the same time, he expressed his hope that the high-quality knowledge acquired here offers the opportunity for young people to find success in companies operating near their birthplace.

VEPONA tried to attract young people’s attention to the chemical industry with spectacular experiments, and also highlighted that the sector holds enormous opportunities for them not only in chemistry, but also in physics, materials science and mechanical engineering. He set an example of this with the chemical industry portfolio of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Informatics, in which the chemical industry mechanical engineering training is outstanding in Hungary. Corporate partners, with whom they also participate in joint research and development programs, play an important role in shaping natural science and engineering careers, supporting training and providing practical specialists.

The three dominant representatives of the chemical industry in the northern Hungarian region, BorsodChem, MOL Petrolkémia and the KISS Group of Companies, are committed to raising the educational level of the region and to educating and creating the next generation of chemists.

The chemical industry is an extremely knowledge-intensive and rapidly developing industry, and as a result, it constantly requires the supply of highly qualified labor force, which is also a basic condition for long-term efficient, safe and successful operation.

– stressed Béla Varga, BorsodChem’s HR and Communications Director. – “THE VEPONA we would like to present a profession and career opportunity that is linked to the region’s outstandingly successful and fastest-growing companies. The University of Miskolc and the participating schools are our strategic partners in training the supply of professionals, and it is in our common interest that more and more students choose chemistry and related professions, which are considered highly competitive skills on the labor market.” he added.

In connection with the Chemical Industry Career Orientation Day, the KISS Group stated: in their opinion, it is of great importance that businesses and economic actors can provide themselves with well-educated professionals with a modern outlook in the long term. This requires the cooperation of educational institutions and businesses, the joint definition and completion of educational tasks. One of the most important elements of the career orientation day is that the young people get a realistic and encouraging picture of the nature, diversity and requirements of the chemical industry and the expertise required for it, as well as the social and economic usefulness of the work to be done in this field.

Elementary and high school students with whom the company has long had a close relationship came to the University City with MOL Petrolkémia. More than 200 students from Tiszaújváros, Debrecen, Hajdúnánás and Tokaj were able to show a comprehensive picture of the training opportunities offered by the company, while they themselves could conduct experiments or try out the six professions available in dual format. And their dual students provided first-hand information about what it is like to study at MOL Petrolkémia.
