Neither professional arguments nor common sense were taken into account, and the damage will be felt not only by Budapest, but by the entire country – the Association of Passenger Boats responded to the Metropolitan Municipality’s decision on Wednesday, with which they accepted the amendment to the Danube Bank Construction Regulations opposed by boating organizations . According to them, this will make passenger navigation on the Danube impossible in Budapest.

In their press release, they write that it was not by chance that the representatives abstained from voting on the Danube Bank Construction Regulations (Dész) at Wednesday’s general meeting, as they believe that it does not contain solutions to the existing problems, but at the same time creates additional ones.

As we reported, today the Capital Assembly held its last regular session, where, after Gergely Karácsony’s repeated order to vote, two DK representatives – Péter Niedermüller and Norbert Élő – accepted the amendment to the Construction Regulations on the Danube.

Gergely Karácsony and the Metropolitan Assembly are responsible

Against the proposed amendment earlier with the participation of 27 ships The Hungarian National Shipping Association and the Association of Passenger Boats held a demonstration on the Budapest section of the Danube in conjunction with a drawing. There were more than four thousand passengers on the participating ships, our on-site report on this by clicking here you can read it.

The association explained, as it did at the protest demonstration, as well as in its statement issued on Wednesday: it considers it a big problem that, after the downtown port closures, new ports could not be established elsewhere at all, or only with hundreds of millions of investments.

With the decision, not only this centuries-old tradition was swept off the table, but as a consequence of the adoption of the regulation, the risk of traffic safety, as well as the level of air pollution and noise pollution on the Danube will increase

– commented on Wednesday’s decision.

The organization also noted that they believe that the decision will cause the capital and the Hungarian national economy to lose significant tourism revenue, and the livelihoods of tens of thousands of people will be endangered in the foreseeable future.

The members of the Metropolitan Assembly who voted yes to the amendment and Gergely Karácsony himself are responsible for all of this!

they stated.
