Index – Tech-Science – Samsung opens a new era in television

--

The top device of Samsung’s latest TV family, the Neo QLED 8K, has become available with an improved NQ8 AI Gen3 processor, thus making a significant step forward in AI-based TV technology – because artificial intelligence will be the biggest attraction of this year’s Samsung TVs. Compared to its predecessor, the new processor has a neural processing unit (NPU) that is twice as fast as its predecessor, and the number of neural networks has also increased eightfold, from 64 to 512, so content can be displayed on the screen in pinpoint detail regardless of the input source.

Of course, the presence of AI in televisions should not be imagined in the same way as in the case of telephones. A new feature is the “8K AI Upscaling Pro” function, which transforms the user’s favorite programs and movies into more detailed and clearer content, approaching 8K quality, surpassing the image quality of traditional 4K TVs. For sports fans, the company offers the “AI Motion Enhancer Pro” function, which makes sports matches even more enjoyable, as it makes even fast-moving elements clearly visible. on the screen, such as a soccer ball or a hockey puck. Also new is the Real Depth Enhancer Pro function, which gives the image a lifelike and captivating depth of field.

AI has also made its way into the sound of TVs – this year’s new feature is “Active Voice Amplifier Pro”, which helps human speech stand out from the background noise, so that every word can be heard clearly. The Neo QLED 8K range will be available in 65-inch, 75-inch and 85-inch sizes, in two different models – the QN800D will be the top, while the QN900D will represent the absolute top of the range. In addition to the Neo QLED 8K TVs, the mid-to-high-end Neo QLED 4K models, named QN95D, QN90D, QN85D, have also been updated – these will be available in sizes between 43 and 85 inches, in accordance with the most varied viewing environments.

However, that’s not all, because at the press event in Budapest, it was possible to take a look at the company’s microLED TV, with which they are ready to open a completely new standard in the world of television.

But what is microLED?

microLED is a new type of flat screen technology that actually creates pixels from arrays of microscopic LEDs. The technology has a number of advantages over the widely used LCD – these include better contrast, faster response times and greater energy efficiency. For a layman, it would be easiest to describe it as an improved OLED panel, as it has many of the same characteristics as OLED displays, except that with microLED the chance of burn-in is almost zero and the brightness is much higher .

The disadvantage of the technology is that production is still extremely difficult. Despite all of this, it seems increasingly clear that the future will be microLED – it is questionable when the technology will reach the point where production will be simplified so that companies can provide their devices with a lower price tag. For now, Samsung’s microLED televisions represent the ultra-premium category – their display size starts at 98 inches, and their production begins only after an order has been received.

It pays to pounce on them soon

The devices can already be pre-ordered, and during this period, Samsung will also give a gift along with the TVs. The 2024 Neo QLED 8K and 4K TV comes with a sound projector, the 2024 S95D OLED TV comes with The Freestyle, the 2024 The Frame TV comes with Music Frame, and the Music Frame comes with Galaxy Buds FE. Kindness will be necessary, as Samsung’s pencil is particularly tight when it comes to the pricing of the devices – 4K Neo QLED TVs can be purchased between HUF 450,000 and 1.6 million, while the 8K variants cost between HUF 1 million and 2.7 million between; so the company is asking a small fortune for the top category this time as well.
