The Hajdú-Bihar County Prosecutor’s Office filed an indictment for attempted murder against the man who, while drunk, hit his friend on the head with a carpenter’s wheelbarrow.
The man and the victim had been friends for many years, they met often, and there was never any conflict between them. On January 1, 2023, in the afternoon, the man visited his friend at his residence. The perpetrator was already drunk at this time and had taken a bottle of wine with him, which he and the victim drank together during the afternoon. During the conversation, the victim was cooking meat in the kitchen on the stove.
In the evening, they both got drunk, the food was ready, the victim took it out of the oven when he noticed that his friend was standing next to him with a carpenter’s wheelbarrow in his hand, and without saying a word, he hit him on the head with great force. He hit the victim with the edge of the ax, as a result of which his head began to bleed profusely.
After the blow, the victim immediately ran out of the house and went to his employer who lived nearby, who immediately took him to the emergency room, where his injuries were treated, and the ambulance and the police were immediately notified.
In the meantime, the accused also left the scene and went home, where he was soon arrested by the police.
The victim suffered injuries that took more than 8 days to heal. However, considering the instrument used to commit the crime, the injured parts of the body, and the magnitude of the impact of force, the accused carried out his act with the understanding that the victim could die as a result of his drunken emotional state.
The Chief Prosecutor’s Office of Hajdú-Bihar County – if the accused admits his guilt at the preparatory session – has proposed a sentence of 6 years and 6 months in prison and a 7-year ban from practicing public affairs in the indictment. The Court of Debrecen will make a decision on the case.
