The Mongol victim’s lower limbs were paralyzed.
The General Prosecutor’s Office of Győr is appealing the sentence imposed in the first instance, i.e. eight years in prison, in the second instance against the South Korean man who tried to kill his cleaning colleague in Komárom with a forklift.
According to the public prosecutor’s statement, the South Korean man worked as a team leader and the Mongolian man as a cleaner at a site in Komárom. Four years ago, in May 2020, the defendant ordered the cleaner of Mongolian origin to crawl into the blanket used to collect garbage while at work.
Although the victim protested in vain, the accused pushed him into the bag-like foil, pulled up its edges and clamped his mouth together. He then motioned to one of his colleagues to use the forklift to compress the approximately one and a half meter high foil bag. The forklift operator did not know that there was a person in the bag, so he set about the task. However, when the cleaner inside cried out, he immediately stopped.
The defendant then freed the victim, and their colleagues notified the ambulance service.
The cleaner’s injuries healed in half a year, and due to the paralysis of his lower limbs, he developed a permanent disability.
The Tatabánya Court sentenced the South Korean man to 8 years in prison for attempted murder and expelled him from the country for 10 years.
The prosecutor took note of the verdict, and the defendant’s lawyer appealed against it primarily for acquittal and secondarily for mitigation. The General Prosecutor’s Office of Győr proposes that the sentence be upheld, as in its opinion the man is guilty and the sentence imposed is necessary. The procedure continues in the second instance before the Győr Court of Appeals.
