This is how Miskolc’s electric buses became millionaires

It stole everyone’s hearts with its appearance and the fact that it is an environmentally friendly vehicle. They consider it nice and quiet, they like the comfortable passenger seats, the doors that open outwards, the many buttons for landing signals, and thanks to its unusually high interior height and spacious corridor, it provides them with a comfortable journey. Young people especially like USB charging sockets on buses.

The reduction in air pollution can be measured in thousand tons

Peter Demeterthe CEO of MVK Zrt. emphasized that the electricity consumption of electric buses is far more favorable than the cost of diesel for diesel buses or gas for CNG buses, so MVK saves money by using them in addition to the environmental benefits.

The economy of the vehicles is clearly demonstrated by the fact that, with availability between 90 and 100 percent, thanks to the lower operating costs, MVK Zrt. reduced its own and the city’s budget by HUF 200 million by using the vehicles.

Electric buses are emission-free, so they contribute to a significant reduction in the amount of carbon dioxide and other pollutants emitted by public transport. Expressed in numbers, the e-buses in Miskolc have burdened the environment with 2,734 tons less carbon dioxide emissions so far.

They are applying for additional buses

Miskolc Városi Közlekedesi Zrt.’s long-term plan is to replace all old diesel buses with modern, environmentally friendly, comfortable and reliable vehicles by the end of the decade. The main milestones in the modernization of the vehicle fleet in recent years: in 2016, MVK’s vehicle fleet was rejuvenated with 75 compressed natural gas-powered buses, 10 electric buses in 2022, and 6 CNG-powered buses in 2023.

With its investments related to the development of the vehicle fleet, MVK Zrt. contributes to the sustainable development of Miskolc in the short, medium and long term, and to the improvement of the city’s competitiveness, as these developments improve the living conditions, standard of living and quality of life of the population, and reduce emissions in the city.

In order to achieve these goals, MVK Zrt. will continue to apply for electric and hydrogen fuel cell buses, as well as for the acquisition, design and operation of the related infrastructure, because this is the only way we can get closer to the extremely important climate policy goal of reducing the carbon dioxide emitted by transport quantity should be significantly reduced and the quality of life of the people living in the city and those visiting it should be improved.
