The Meeting of the Bolyai Schools has a history of 20 years, and for the third time the Bolyas of Kecskemét played the role of host. This year again, delegations from eight secondary schools named after Bolyai were received: from Mosonmagyaróvár, Aknaszlatina, Zenta, Marosvásárhely, Budapest, Salgótarján, Szombathely and Ócsa. From the beginning, the purpose of the meeting was to nurture the intellectual heritage of János Bolyai and Farkas Bolyai, and to get to know each other’s values. To this day, the schools meet every year and many, many friendships have been made at these meetings, which are outstanding not only from the point of view of exchange of experiences, but also from the side of community building. New this year, the young people’s initiative to make a student exchange program part of the alliance of the nine schools in the future. However, this is just an idea, the options for this will be clarified in the coming months.

The high-quality organization of the event was also supported by the support of the Gábor Bethlen Foundation and the National Cooperation Fund.

At this year’s meeting in Kecskemét, many exciting programs awaited the guests. As part of this, roses were planted together in the courtyard of Bolyai High School, around a special shape that symbolized the logo of the meeting. The 9 rose trees and 27 rose bushes were offered by the Széchenyi City Association, together with the necessary planting land.

During a previous meeting, a pony apple tree was planted, which was grafted from the apple tree on Bolyai’s grave. The tree is one of a total of 22 registered similar species in Hungary.

In a year, the János Bolyai High School in Budapest will host the meeting.
