The Hajdú-Bihar County Organization of the Hungarian Red Cross, which has around 8,400 members, held this year’s general meeting in the restaurant of the Vágóhíd utca office complex in Debrecen on Monday afternoon. At the event, it was said, among other things, that Debrecen played a prominent role in the collection of donations: 14 of the 29 stores collected in the county were in Cívisváros.
The help of the Hungarian Red Cross is urgently needed in times of pandemic and war
Sándor Tasi, the vice-chairman of the Hajdú-Bihar County Assembly, greeted the gathering and then emphasized that it is important to remember those civil organizations that help humanity thanks to their various tasks. He added: the proximity of the pandemic and the war raging in Ukraine is proof that the activities of the Hungarian Red Cross are urgently needed.
– Neither political nor other economic considerations can lead to members of the Hungarian Red Cross doing their work under external influence – he underlined. He noted: it does not matter whether we are on the side of war or peace.
At the event, it was said that in the accounting year, 732 Ukrainians in trouble (men, women and children) stayed in reception centers and accommodation facilities in the settlements of four regional organizations (in Debrecen, Hajdúszoboszló, Hajdúböszörmény and Hajdúnánás). Health promotion and mental health presentations, family and children’s programs were regularly organized, and the staff of the organization involved children in summer trips and camps.
About half of the charity collections took place in Debrecen
As for their further charitable activities, last year they organized collections in 29 stores (16 more than the previous year), of which 14 locations affected the Debrecen area. More than 6,470 kilograms of goods were donated, which was about 220 kilograms more than the amount registered in the previous year.
It was also reported that the Hajdú-Bihar County Organization of the Hungarian Red Cross added 261 fee-paying members compared to the previous year, and the total number of people included in the registration system (including non-payers) is 8,432. They remembered the regular blood donors, in whose honor László Fórizs regional president and Ibolya Fazekasné Farkas founded and presented a new award entitled Multi-generational blood donor family – the awards were received by a three-generation donor family in Hajdúböszörmény. Great emphasis is also placed on training courses: 92 courses were organized in 2023, and the number of participants increased by 192 compared to the statistics of a year ago.
