The volume “Photo album of Hungary” has been published, in which 274 photos from 187 artists are included – emphasized the jury president of the Hungary 365 photo competition in the program of the M1 channel.
Otto Kaiser photographer said that about 120,000 pictures were submitted by amateur and professional photographers to the Hungary 365 photo contest, which started five years ago.
According to him, the album can also be considered a textbook, because anyone interested in photography can see how world-famous Hungarian nature photographers implement their ideas with what technique and mindset, which can help in learning photography.
The photographer added that you can also get to know Hungary from the book with the help of the blind maps included in the volume, which show where the shot was taken.
Ottó Kaiser believed that a very high-quality book had been created. He noted that until now a book was made from the photos only for “internal use”, the book entitled “Photo album of Hungary” is the first to be commercially available.
He also talked about the fact that the primary consideration for the selection was not the author and the location, but the photo. He pointed out: pairs of pictures were put together in the book. If these image pairs are well matched, a third image is created. In dramaturgy, thought, and form, there is always a point, or even a counterpoint, where the images meet, said Ottó Kaiser.
Ottó Kaiser emphasized that since digitization, the boundaries between amateur and professional photographers have blurred. As he said, “we are dealing with prepared, extremely obsessed amateurs”, adding that the pictures of amateur photographers make up 60-65 percent of the works submitted to the competition.
In the selection album, 60 percent are nature photos, but there are also architectural works that capture material heritage and pictures of life, explained the photographer.

In his program, he said that the project, which started in 2019, proved year after year that there is much more to it than what was previously thought, and it also turned out that an extremely large number of high-quality photos are submitted to the competition. It was then that the decision was made to prepare a book and exhibitions from the works, Ottó Kaiser said.
He emphasized that Hungary 365 has been working with the help of the Hungarian Heritage Initiative Nonprofit Kft. since last year. As he said, the images can be viewed in an online gallery, and the album can already be purchased.
