After the commemoration, they returned to the cultural center, where oncologist Mego Michal, head of the National Oncology Institute, gave a performance, in which those present could join in as well. They asked Mónika Tóth, the wife of the mayor of Szilas, Péter Tóth, to lead the conversation, as she herself has suffered from the disease. Most of the participants had specific questions, their relatives were or are still affected by cancer, or they themselves have been through it and are trying to find out about the chances of recovery.
“I think it is very important to talk about cancer, as well as about prevention. In Slovakia, a preventive program for cervical cancer, colon cancer and breast cancer screening started in 2018, this will be continued this year with the prostate and lung cancer screening program”
– informed the doctor and emphasized the importance of regular check-ups. He said that if there is a change in appetite or sudden weight loss, we should definitely consult a doctor.
“It is a normal reaction that we fear the disease, cancer even more, but you have to take the first step and go to the doctor. I had a patient who let breast cancer grow for 3 years and came to me with metastases. This cancer was not such an aggressive type, if it had come earlier, we could have cured it, now we can only treat it”
he shared his experience.
