The Football Association of Ireland (FAI) is still without a captain, as they have not found a professional to lead their men’s national team since November.

csakfoci.hu highlighted the announcement of the FAI, in which they have already apologized to their fans for not being able to find the right specialist to manage the national team by the planned date, i.e. by the end of April.

“We understand that this is not necessarily the news that people wanted to hear and they may be disappointed said Marc Canham, director of the FAI. – We are absolutely committed and determined to find the best person for our men’s national team and Irish football and that will continue to be our aim. We recognize that the deadlines we set created expectations and confusion for everyone. In retrospect, maybe we wouldn’t set those deadlines if we were to do it again, we’d say the search would last as long as it needed to. We acknowledge our mistake and apologize for it, but we are confident that this process will ultimately result in us finding the best person for the job.” – assessed the current situation.

The association dismissed Stephen Kenny from the position in November 2023, and since February, John O’Shea has temporarily taken over the management of the felt squad. Under the guidance of the mentioned specialist, the Irish national team will play against Hungary on June 4 in Dublin. The FAI has now promised to find a new head coach by the opening Nations League game against England in five months.
