The Duke of Kent, Edward, served as colonel of the Scots Guards for five decades, but is now handing over that important position to another member of the royal family.
His cousin, Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh, III. King Charles his youngest brother undertakes this task at the prestigious regiment.

The Duke of Kent, Edward, will attend the Scots Guards’ annual commemoration in London on Sunday, but it will be the last time he appears as a colonel. During these years I witnessed the work of the Scots Guards in times of peace and war, admiring their courage, selfless heroism and sense of duty.
Although the Duke of Kent is relinquishing the honorary title, he will remain active in the life of the royal family. Although it is not known why he is leaving the position, it is possible that he decided to do so simply due to his age.
The Duke of Kent was born in 1935 and, at 88, is still one of the oldest working royals and regularly attends public events in the company of other members of the royal family, including Prince III. King Charles, Queen Camilla and other working royals as well.
