Joe Dituri, aka Dr. Deep Sea, shared how life under water affected his body. The changes are surprisingly positive.

University of South Florida professor Joe Dituri subjected himself to a crazy experiment. The researcher known as Dr. Deep Sea was curious about the effect of underwater life on the human body, so he spent 100 days at the bottom of the sea. Another goal of his experiment, Neptune 100, was to find new ways to revive marine environments that had been destroyed by human pollution.

For the sake of the experiment, the retired US Navy commander-turned-professor moved into the Jules Undersea Lodge at Key Largo, which is a 9 square meter underwater cabin.

During the experiment, Joe Dituri lived in complete isolation, but was constantly monitored by a psychologist and a psychiatrist while he taught children about underwater excavations via an online connection. Barely a month had passed since Neptune 100 when the professor and his team discovered a new species. The unicellular organism is still being studied by microbiologists.

Regarding the discovery, the professor gave an interview to The Independent from underwater.

“People have already dived in this area thousands of times. The new species was right there in front of our eyes all along, but we didn’t pay enough attention,” said the researcher about the new single-celled species, who claims that the deep-sea life had a very positive effect on him after the experiment.

I am 56 years old now. My biological age was 44 when I submerged, but when I got out of the water my biological age was 34

– said the researcher, according to LadBible, who claims that the telomeres, i.e. the structures on the chromosomes, which are related to the extension of our lives, have lengthened. In addition, blood tests showed a 50 percent reduction in all inflammatory markers in his body.

In addition, it is no small thing that Joe Dituri also set a new Guinness record for the most days spent underwater, beating the old record of 73 days.
