SUV and crossover models are among the most popular car models today, whether they are electric or internal combustion. If we mix this formula with the feeling of life provided by Tesla, we can easily get the most popular and thus the largest number of electric cars produced today, which is the Model Y.
It’s no wonder that every manufacturer that makes a similar shape for the sake of customers (and for your wallet) wants to compete with the Tesla Model Y. This is also the case with the Chinese BYD, who already presented the car in November last year, which they themselves claim is tasked with squeezing Tesla’s savior.
Although the premiere was already last year, we haven’t heard much about the BYD Sea Lion 07 model since then, which of course does not mean that BYD has not worked hard on the model. And the work seems to be slowly completed in the case of the 4830 mm long, 1925 mm wide and 1620 mm high Sea Lion 07, the dimensions of which are otherwise extremely close to those of the rival Model Y.
In many other respects, the Tesla Model Y will have a strong challenger in the form of BYD’s car, as the materials used and the technology (e-platform 3.0) will all be said to be competitive. The biggest weapon, and the price, we already know that BYD will shoot well below the Model Y. The base price for this Tesla car is roughly $37,000 in China, but the base price of the Sea Lion 07 is expected to be only $27,000 yuan, which means BYD’s e-car will be nearly $10,000 cheaper.
Data is coming slowly for the Sea Lion 07 as well, based on the information leaked from MIIT, the selectable power can be 170 or 230 kW in the case of units equipped with one engine, while the double engine versions can offer 390 kW power. What is certain, however, is the interior, as BYD recently presented this on the Weibo social platform.
The BYD Sea Lion 07 is therefore slowly reaching the phase of the actual introduction, the only question is when the final model will be presented.
