The electric Grandland is capable of a range of up to 700 kilometers

Opel presented the new generation of its Grandland SUV model, which will be available in a fully electric version for the first time. Furthermore, the Grandland is the first Opel electric model to be based on the group’s STLA Medium platform.

The Grandland is one of Opel’s most sought-after models, thanks to its SUV shape and excellent price/value ratio. After several updates, the first Grandland with an externally charged battery finally arrived in the summer of 2023, i.e. a PHEV version that debuted as the GSe. According to the manufacturer, with the battery cap installed in the car, it is possible to drive up to 65 km in purely electric mode, but there must have been many people even then who would have preferred a purely electric (BEV) version.

The time has come for them to visit the configurator, because Opel presented the purely electric version of the Grandland. This will be the first model within the Opel brand to be built on the Stellantis STLA Medium floor plate. The first electric model introduced on this platform was the Peugeot e-3008 last year.

In terms of the drive chain, there are many similarities between Peugeot and Opel, but the BEV version of the Grandland has a battery pack with a capacity of 98 kWh, in the case of the e-3008 it is “only” 73 kWh. The Grandland can thus travel up to 700 km according to WLTP. The consumption per 100 km was not mentioned in the press material. Also, the rumor that a smaller battery pack will be available for the Grandland has not been confirmed, of course with a more favorable price tag. Opel is also a bit vague about charging. “At a public fast charging station, the Grandland needs just 26 minutes to charge to 80 percent of its battery capacity.”

Nevertheless, according to the possibilities provided by the floor plate, we can expect a system voltage of 400 V and a power of 136 – 160 kW on the DC branch. There is no official information about the AC on-board charger yet, but a minimum of 11 kW is almost certain, and there is also a chance for an optional 22 kW output. In terms of performance, nothing is certain yet, it is expected to be around 170 and 240 kW.

As far as style is concerned, Opel has again refined its Vizor solution a bit. Firstly, the integrated Opel logo lights up, and secondly, the vertical crease and the horizontal Visor merge with the centrally illuminated Opel logo. The interior also offers a number of niceties, including a digital cockpit, head-up display and a 16-inch touchscreen. But the “industry-leading Intelli-Lux Pixel Matrix HD lamp” as our headlights with more than 50,000 light pixels, the 40:20:40 fold-down rear seat bench and up to 1,641 liters of cargo space. Opel has not yet announced prices, but the German price of the e-3008 is already known (48,650 euros), which will certainly differ somewhat from the Grandland, in the higher direction.
