Its eight-cylinder biturbo gasoline engine and plug-in hybrid drive deliver 816 horsepower in the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 SE Performance.
Four hundred and twenty horsepower is already more than enough, even from that perspective the nearly six hundred horsepower is ready-made fireworks, but even this can be overshadowed by the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 SE Performance, whose system output is barely below 820 horsepower.
The GT 63 S can travel only 13 kilometers on a single charge in electric mode, which perfectly shows that this is not the point here.
The 560-cell, 400-volt, 6.1 kWh battery, which is also installed in the GT 63 SE Performance, was developed specifically for the AMG models. Since the right temperature is a very important factor for batteries, the thermal management in the Mercedes is liquid-cooled, so it can deliver its maximum performance for the longest time.
The plug-in hybrid GT is almost three hundred kilograms heavier (the plain V8 is also 2 tons), which can be charged from alternating current with 3.7 kW through the opening in the rear bumper. The optional rear seats can still be tilted, but the size of the luggage compartment is significantly reduced by the extra technology associated with the hybrid drive.
With 816 horsepower and a maximum torque of 1,420 Nm, there is really brutal power in the long-named sports coupe.
Its 4.0-liter biturbo V8 engine alone produces 612 horsepower between 5,750 and 6,500 rpm, and its peak torque is 850 Nm from 2,500 to 4,500 rpm. In addition to these modest figures, the electric motor with 204 horsepower and 320 Nm of torque is connected to the drive of the rear axle via a two-speed gearbox and a mechanical, partially self-locking differential. With full firepower, it accelerates to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds and has a top speed of 320 km/h.
With carbon-ceramic brakes, active aerodynamic elements and all-wheel steering, everything is there to make the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 SE Performance powerful despite its weight.
