The update has been available for a long time, but many people have not used it.

At least six botnet malware exploits a security hole discovered in TP-Link Archer AX21 (AX1800) Wi-Fi routers, Bleeping Computer reported.

The source of the problem in question is a serious vulnerability (CVE-2023-1389) in the web monitoring system of routers. The error was identified by several security researchers as early as January 2023, following which TP-Link issued a bug fix in March, but devices that have not been updated since then are still vulnerable.

Attackers also take advantage of the opportunity offered on the tray: versions of botnets called Mirai and Condi have also appeared on faulty routers. According to the cyber security company Fortinet, there has also been a jump in the number of botnet activities:

According to telemetry data, in March this year, the number of malicious activities exceeded 40-50 thousand on some days.

Botnets can take control of a vulnerable router and trick the devices into engaging in malicious activities, such as DDoS, or denial-of-service attacks. This page contains all the necessary information for updating the software of the router, which is also available in Hungary.
