If you do this and diligently weed around it, maybe eat it, then there is a good chance you can pick them continuously from July until the first frost then the fresh leaves. Just don’t be too greedy! No more than 2-3 leaves at a time, however, if you cover the base thoroughly for the winter, you can start harvesting fresh Swiss chard again in the spring.
