Now Hungarian children can also receive letter packages with names from the British favorite teddy bear

--

Although not in London, but in Budapest, UNICEF Hungary’s latest charity campaign started with an unadulterated British tea party, in which the world-famous teddy bear Paddington gets the main role, who every month he sends another letter to the children, in which they can get to know exotic countries and even help their friends who have a difficult fate. From now on, there is reason to wait for the postman, who brings a package with a name from the famous teddy bear every month to children whose families join the organization’s regular support community. The British Embassy, the British Council, Szente Vajk, the Hungarian voice of Paddington and many well-known celebrities supported the initiative.

“Paddington’s teddy bear heritage is deeply rooted in British culture. For more than sixty-five years, he has been a role model of kindness and acceptance, and his adventures continue to inspire children around the world to this day,” said Paul Fox, British Ambassador to Hungary.

Paddington is optimistic, helpful, curious and sensitive to the world and, by the way, despite his Peruvian origin, he writes and speaks in beautiful British English.

In addition to entertaining Hungarian children, the goal of UNICEF’s funnest campaign is to educate, raise awareness, introduce other cultures and, of course, provide assistance.

The letter series provides a year-round family experience, during which young and old can get to know twelve different countries (e.g. Indonesia, Cambodia, Jordan, Syria, Venezuela, Burkina Faso) together. The little “world travelers” also receive playful tasks, a travel diary, a world map, stickers, postcards and information cards in the packages, which are also excellent for language learning. The monthly fee for the Paddington adventure is also a regular donation, the amount of which is automatically received by UNICEF every month. With this predictable support, subscribers enable the organization to provide ongoing assistance to the world’s most vulnerable children.

In 2021, the organization already launched a similar initiative, which aroused enormous interest from the first moments. The letters written by Judit Trikó and Nyamm Berg have since been received by more than six thousand children here, but from now on, in addition to domestic favorites, little explorers can also expect packages from a real “world star”, in two languages.

“We are happy that UNICEF Hungary is making the Paddington bear letter pack available in the original English language. We hope that this will encourage even more Hungarian children to learn English, get to know British culture and embrace values such as tolerance and diversity.” and at the same time help children in need” said Georgina Szilágyi, director of the British Council in Hungary.

“During the first recordings, I had to underline the funny accidents with the teddy bear with sound, but as I got to know the story more and more, I grasped its true depth. Paddington also taught me to accept and empathize and made me realize how perfect an example he sets for everyone by the way he faces his everyday challenges and maintains his kindness, kindness, and perseverance even in the most difficult moments. This makes her the perfect symbol of UNICEF’s work for children. I recommend everyone to seize this great opportunity and sign up for the adventure,” added Szente Vajk about his own experiences.

The amount received from the grants creates an opportunity for children living in areas affected by war or natural disasters to survive, play and learn – since childhood is unique and unrepeatable and everyone has the right to make this defining period as long as possible. may you be happiest, healthiest and safest.

“Through Paddington’s letter packages, we encourage Hungarian families to join us, give their own children a valuable experience, while supporting UNICEF’s work for children with their regular support. We believe that together we are able to give every child the opportunity to grow and develop in a supportive environment,” said Antónia Mészáros, Executive Director of UNICEF Hungary.
