Meanwhile, Hungary is sending 200 soldiers to the country.

In the coming days, the United States will withdraw its troops from Chad, the New York Times has learned. The Pentagon decided to withdraw 75 soldiers stationed in the capital of the Central African country, Ndjamena, days after the Biden administration announced that more than 1,000 American soldiers would leave neighboring Niger in the coming months.

Washington is forced to withdraw its troops from the two African countries because their governments demanded a renegotiation of the terms of American involvement. The Americans’ departure in both countries comes at a time when Niger, like Mali and Burkina Faso, is turning to Russia after years of security cooperation.

The decision to withdraw from Niger is final, but anonymous US officials speaking to the New York Times are still confident that security cooperation can be discussed again after Chadian elections on May 6.

Meanwhile, the Hungarian Armed Forces plans to send 200 soldiers to Chad, organized by the military mission to the Prime Minister’s son, To Gáspár Orbán also gets a key role. The Prime Minister’s decision on the mission was published in February.
