Index – Tech-Science – Huge improvements are coming to Facebook and Instagram

--

Mark Zuckerberg was satisfied with the monopoly of OpenAI and ChatGPT, so he decided to take a step that will stir up the stagnant water in the field of artificial intelligence-based developments. As is known, Meta presented its self-developed AI assistant in September last year, but little has been heard about it since then. Until recently, it was revealed that Zuckerberg was actually building it into all the major Meta apps.

Artificial intelligence will therefore arrive in the chat interfaces of Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger, but in addition to all of this, it will also appear in the main Facebook feed.

In addition, the assistant will also receive a separate website, for residents of certain countries it is already available at the address meta.ai – however, it is not yet possible to access it from Hungary. Zuckerberg and Meta decided to introduce the developments because they see that this is the only way they can challenge OpenAI – that is why they further developed their open source AI model, Llama, which this time is called Llama 3. According to the company, the new model already outperforms the competition in key metrics and is generally more efficient at tasks like coding.

For now, it looks like Meta will only be releasing two smaller Llama 3 models that will be available both in the AI assistant and for third-party developers – this will be followed by a larger, now multimodal model.

This makes Llama 3 unique

Currently, Meta’s AI assistant is the only chatbot that can provide real-time search results from several search engines, namely Google and Bing. Which one it ultimately relies on will be decided by AI itself based on which search results it thinks are more relevant. In addition, the image generation mechanisms have also been updated, for example, Llama 3 can now create moving images and GIFs, but what is even more impressive is the real-time image generation.

The model can generate images in a fraction of a second, so the photo is already created while we are just typing the instructions.

This is not only spectacular, but also extremely useful, because it gives users the opportunity to “reach into” the generation process, since they can adjust the prompt on the go according to what they see on the display. And where exactly will Meta AI be used? As we wrote, first on the web address meta.ai, but after a later update, the chatbot will also be accessible as a traditional conversation on Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp. Once you’re here, you can literally ask and ask Meta AI for anything, from writing down your essentials for a week’s vacation in Greece to writing lines of code for a widget.

Although only available in the United States until now, Meta’s AI is now available in English in Australia, Canada, Ghana, Jamaica, Malawi, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, Singapore, South Africa, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. It is not yet known when other languages will be supported, or when the development will arrive in other countries.

AI is already blooming in Viber

As we previously reported, not only Meta’s platforms are hijacked by AI, because recently another popular chat application, Viber, also received AI support. The essence of the innovation is that, thanks to AI, Viber can now summarize the content of group conversations going back up to a hundred unread messages. In practice, this looks like the user – after entering a group conversation with unread messages – receives a message stating that Viber is able to sum up briefly, in points, what he missed, so he does not have to read back what happened for long minutes.

It is important to note that for the function to work, it is essential that the AI interprets what is written in the conversation, so in order to protect more sensitive data, you can of course disable the development. The feature is gradually rolling out to people in the United States, the Philippines, Ukraine, Japan, Bulgaria, and Poland, with more countries coming soon. The service will be available on both iOS and Android systems, in more than 50 languages - however, the details of the release in Hungary are not known in this case either.

The media and marketing communication publication of Indamedia has been launched.
