We are one step away from the EU banning these packaging

First of all, the European Union would rewrite the practice of packaging single-use, mini-packaging foods, thereby reducing the amount of sometimes unnecessary packaging materials associated with food.

In order for the regulation to come into effect, the European Council also needs to give its nod to the details that have just been agreed. Parliament has already votedand since these are rules agreed in principle with the council in advance, it is likely that they will not put an obstacle in front of the provision.

The approved draft is subject to quantitative and usage restrictions also decided to phase out single-use packaging materials in certain categories.

The most drastic changes will come into effect on January 1, 2030. From then on, it will be forbidden to use certain types of single-use plastic packaging. E.g

the packaging of unprocessed fresh fruits and vegetables, the single-use plastic packaging of food and drinks served and consumed in cafes and restaurants,

individually wrapped portions (spices, sauces, coffee creamers, sugar) single-use packaging, a single-use miniature packaging for hotel toiletries and the very light (thinner than 15 microns) plastic carrier bags.

Recommendations were also made for reusing the packaging of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, and in the spirit of action against unnecessary amounts of packaging material, the proportion of empty space during transport was determined. THE in the case of packaging materials apart from certain exceptions, they also require reusability.
