The World Meteorological Organization and the European Union’s climate change monitoring service published a worrying report. According to the report, Europe is the fastest warming continent in the world, with the average temperature rising twice as fast as the global average. According to statistics, it is 2.3 degrees warmer in Europe than before industrialization,

and everything can have serious long-term consequences for the continent’s economy.

As a result of warming, the weather is also more extreme. According to meteorologist Lajos Németh, the common result of global climate change and human activity is the easily observable more extreme weather. According to the specialist, global climate change has always existed, but human intervention in nature has accelerated in the last hundred years.

When asked how all of this affects Hungary’s weather in the long term, Lajos Németh said that there are climate models that forecast Hungary’s weather until 2050, 2070 and 2100:

Based on this, we can say that the country’s weather is gradually shifting from four seasons to a two-season, Mediterranean-type climate, with increasingly hot, dry summers and mild winters.

– said Lajos Németh, who also said that according to the modelling, the Great Plains region is the most endangered area in terms of climate change, and it could be the driest area in Hungary in 2100.
