On Tuesday, Hazajóró announced on Facebook that the Chinese authorities had blown up Csaba Varga’s mountain climbing expedition, the Magyar Nemzet noted.
As they write, after several postponements, the Chinese authorities did not give permission to any climber, so Csaba Varga will definitely not be able to climb the 8,027-meter peak of Sisapangma in 2024.
The climber is extremely disappointed, but does not give up on his dreams. Now he is returning home, but he is already planning his next eight thousand expeditions.
As we previously reported, the Nagyvárad climber left Budapest for Nepal’s capital, Kathmandu, at the beginning of April. He wanted to be the first Hungarian to climb the 14th highest mountain peak in the world without the use of supplemental oxygen and high-altitude load carriers.
The climber has so far reached six mountain peaks higher than 8,000 meters. These are the following:
- In 2013, Gasherbrum II (8,035 meters);
- Broad Peak (8,051 meters) in 2014;
- in 2017, Manaszlu (8163 meters);
- In 2019, Gasherbrum I (8,068 meters);
- Dhaulagiri (8167 meters) in 2021;
- In 2023 Nanga Parbat (8125 meters).
He conquered the above peaks without the use of supplemental oxygen or high-mountain burdens.
