According to the minister, the Russian units will receive the first copies of the next generation in two versions. The air defense systems, also known as Prometheus (“Prometheus”), are said to be primarily used to destroy intercontinental ballistic missiles, but in principle they can also be used against other air targets.
According to Sojgu, the formations will also receive other previously developed equipment, such as Sz-400 and Sz-300V4 air defense missile systems, Buk-M3, Tor-M2U missile systems, as well as new generation radar stations.
The interesting thing about the defense minister’s speech is that in 2022, Yury Borisov, the vice president of the Duma, already announced the handover of the S-500s to the Russian troops, but no new information about these devices has been received since then. Based on what has been said, the Prometheus should have been in series production for two years already.
