Mandiner previously reported that we will probably have to deal with Russian intelligence in Europe again. Anton Bendarzhevskij wrote a longer post about this. “Russia in the recent period, it has successfully restarted its intelligence activities in European countries” – wrote the expert.
Ewa Skoog Haslum, the head of the Swedish Navy, came forward on Tuesday with the accusation that Russian oil tankers “shadow fleet” engages in espionage in the Baltic Sea and helps circumvent sanctions on Russian oil trade, the Kyiv Independent reported.
The newspaper said the shadow fleet refers to the aging and largely uninsured oil tankers used by Russia to transport oil above the $60-a-barrel price ceiling imposed by the European Union, the United States and the G7 in December 2022.
According to Haslum, some of the ships in the shadow fleet were found to have communication and signaling equipment not normally found on cargo ships. And this raises the concern that the ships will be used in hybrid operations.
The equipment can even be used to eavesdrop on communications or carry out other acts of espionage”
– revealed the head of the Swedish Navy.
