Milanese can’t sleep, so the city would ban ice cream and pizza on the streets at night

--

In 12 districts, the Milan municipality would ban night-time takeaways – including pizza and ice cream – and outdoor drink sales, in order to curb the noisy groups that crowd the streets of the Italian city and keep local residents awake, reports Sky News.

If passed, the law would enter into force in mid-May and be in effect until November. According to the proposal, the ban would take effect at 1:30 a.m. on weekdays, and 2:30 a.m. on weekends and holidays, and would last until six in the morning, and would only apply to public areas and outside seating areas of restaurants/bars/ice cream parlors. So you could still have pizza and ice cream indoors at night.

According to Deputy Mayor Marco Granelli, “the goal is to create a balance between socializing and entertainment, and the peace and tranquility of the residents.”

Local residents can comment on the bill until the beginning of May, and there is even a chance that nothing will come of it. The city already tried to regulate night ice cream parlors in 2013, but it caused such an uproar that they eventually backed down.
