  • Police had to intervene against anti-Israel protesters at Yale University, where dozens of activists were produced.
  • Meanwhile, New York’s Columbia University is holding lectures online due to protests and anti-Semitic expressions.

The police of Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut set up camp on the grounds of the institution, removed members of a group protesting against Israel, and approx. It produced 40-45 people, including several students.

Hundreds of people gathered at Yale University over the weekend demanding, among other things, that the university sever ties with the military industry companies that provide financial support to the institution, and which, according to the protesters, supply weapons to Israel.

During the intervention of the authority, hundreds of protesters blocked a nearby busy road intersection. Participants in the movement held up signs reading “Free Palestine” and in solidarity with the protesters at Columbia University.

Columbia has moved to distance learning

Anti-Israel demonstrations also continued at New York’s Columbia University. The management of the university decided to switch to online distance learning due to the movements affecting the territory of the institution.

On Thursday, more than 100 people were detained at the American university among the protesters camped there, who demanded that the management of the educational institution cut off relations with certain partners linked to Israel.

Eric Adams, the mayor of New York City, condemned what happened at Columbia University on Sunday and said that the anti-Semitic slogans chanted by the demonstrators there were completely unacceptable. The mayor announced that the police of the city of New York are ready to intervene, but they can only intervene in university areas at the request of the institution’s police or in very justified cases.

As an example of the anti-Jewish manifestations of the demonstrations taking place at Columbia University, the mayor highlighted: Jewish students were depicted on banners as targets of the al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Palestinian Hamas, and slogans such as “We are Hamas” or “No we want Zionists!”

Ahead of the start of the Jewish holiday of Passover on Monday, the rabbi of Columbia University and its Barnard College asked Jewish students to travel home because university security staff and the New York City Police Department could not guarantee their safety.

Pro-Palestinian activists protested at several other American universities last week. On Thursday, the meeting of the management of Rutgers University in the state of New Jersey was interrupted by anti-Israel, Palestinian uprising and intifada activists. (MTI)
