The Samsung Group obliges the managers of its subsidiary companies to work a six-day work week. There are economic reasons for the decision: rising oil prices, high borrowing costs and the strong devaluation of the South Korean won, MediaFuture reported.

Given that the performance of our major units, including Samsung Electronics Co., has fallen short of expectations in 2023, we are introducing a six-day work week for managers to make the crisis felt and all efforts to overcome it

– said a manager of the Samsung group recently.

MediaFuture reports that the measure will take effect immediately at most of Samsung’s technology divisions. By the way, some managers have been working six-day working hours at the company on a voluntary basis for years. Samsung Electronics executives can apply for Saturday or Sunday as an optional option. It was pointed out that

non-executive employees may still work five days a week.

On a global level, however, some companies are considering the introduction of a four-day working week. As Index reported, Magyar Telekom was the first in the domestic corporate sector to try out the four-day work week as part of a pilot project, but the good news arriving in June 2022 did not last too long.

Even though for the first time, in November of the same year, there were news that the plan had worked perfectly for the telecommunications company and that additional employees were planned to be involved, the magenta-colored company, having undergone a serious turnaround, did not make such a positive statement this year about the work schedule, which is considered a pioneering solution in our country.

In mid-February, the company announced that it would end the four-day workweek test program and return to traditional work schedules, as they claimed that not everyone was able to work efficiently enough in the shortened workweek. According to some research, the four-day work week also improves the health, well-being and productivity of employees.
