The relief of Western diplomatic and military leaders caused by the expected arrival of the American aid package for the Ukrainians is mixed with concern that before the American weapons arrive, Ukraine may suffer further losses on the front.
It will take time for the effect of the US arms shipment accepted over the weekend to be felt on the front, where several high-ranking NATO officials fear that a Russian breakthrough could follow next month. Officials speaking to Handelsblatt spoke of a serious threat on the battlefield.
The situation on the front line is getting worse
At the meeting of EU foreign and defense ministers in Luxembourg, the German Secretary of State for Defense Siementje Möller said that the situation is getting worse and that the Ukrainians are experiencing shortages in almost every area. A also believes that the situation on the front line is worse than is generally thought, because during the controversies that paralyze the American legislature
Ukraine simply ran out of everything, be it ammunition or artillery.
A Ukrainian official also acknowledged the seriousness of the situation for the paper.
In addition, even the Senate must give its nod to the proposal passed by the House of Representatives on Saturday, providing Ukraine with 60 billion dollars – which the body plans to do this week – and then it can go into effect with the signature of US President Joe Biden.
At the same time, during the congressional delay, the American army did not hesitate and prepared the weapons to be delivered, but it is still conceivable that when the heads of state and government of the NATO member states gather in Washington in July, it will coincide with the Russian military successes.
According to the diplomats, this danger was mitigated, but not eliminated, by the decision of the House of Representatives on Saturday.
