Dommaraju Gukesh lost only once out of 14 games (against Alireza Firouz of France), but he more than compensated for this with his five victories, and in the end he finished in first place with half a point advantage, ahead of the American Fabiano Caruana and the former World Cup finalist Jan Nepomnyaschi of Russia.

Gukesh is a representative of young Indians breaking into the forefront of the chess world with tremendous momentum. He is only 17 years old (he will be 18 at the time of the World Cup match). There has never been a younger challenger for the World Cup title than him in the history of the sport.

He ranks 16th in the current world ranking with 2743 Live Points. At the 2022 Chess Olympiad, he was a member of the second team of the Indian team that won the bronze medal, but he was the best player in the entire tournament with 9 points from 11 rounds.

The World Cup title match between Ting Li-zhen and Dommaraju Gukesh does not yet have a venue, but it has already been decided that the duel will be held in November this year.
