Index – Abroad – The virus that causes hepatitis is spreading rapidly in the neighborhood

--

In eastern Slovakia, infectious hepatitis (hepatitis A), which causes jaundice, is appearing in more and more districts. Not only in villages, but also in larger cities. According to Új Szó, patients were also found in Felsővízkz. Most of the infected are of preschool or school age.

We have registered 47 patients since the beginning of the year, and the number of cases is constantly increasing. Patients are placed in the infectious disease department

– said Ingrid Senajová, an epidemiologist.

The paper says that the epidemic reared its head at Easter. According to experts, the solution would be to vaccinate children, but there are not enough vaccines in the country. Senajová added: “The hepatitis A virus is excreted in feces and is spread through contact. Personal hygiene is important: you shouldn’t drink from the same glass and smoke the same cigarette.”

As we wrote earlier, this is a virus that is latent for a long time, its latent period can be as long as fifteen to thirty days. It begins with fever, loss of appetite, weakness, and abdominal pain lasting a few days, and these symptoms are followed by loss of appetite, vomiting, pain or tenderness in the upper right abdomen, dark urine, light-colored stools, jaundice, or yellowing of the eyes.

Thorough hand washing and washing fruits and vegetables under running water play a very important role in preventing the spread of infection.
