At least five rockets were fired from the Iraqi city of Zummar on Sunday towards a US military base in northeastern Syria. An American official confirmed the news of the attack to Reuters, but there has been no official information so far. According to initial reports, no one was injured at the Rmelani base – the Reuters source, who asked to remain anonymous, spoke of an unsuccessful rocket attack.

This is the first time since the beginning of February that a US military base has been attacked in the region.

Kataib Hezbollah militants in Iraq said on Monday that they will resume attacks on US military bases after seeing no progress in negotiations on the withdrawal of the Americans (Washington previously promised that its troops would leave Iraqi and Syrian bases because of the increasing risk of attacks). The militia linked to Iran announced all this a few days after Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani met with US President Joe Biden at the White House. “What happened not long ago is just the beginning,” said the Iraqi armed group, referring to Sunday’s operation.

On Saturday night, an explosion took place at the Iraqi military base housing another pro-Iranian group, the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF).
