According to the German Meteorological Service, snow and ice can be expected in Baden-Württemberg even in lower-lying areas. Frost is expected in places in North Rhine-Westphalia, Hesse, the Rhine and Saar regions, and snow fell in many places in the mountains. The meteorological service also expects a significant amount of fresh snow in the Thuringian Mountains, and also in Saxony. But only light snowfall is predicted for Sunday in the mountains of Lower Saxony, reports the Bild.

The weather caused a lot of accidents

Roads were also slippery in low-lying areas on Saturday. There was also a mass accident on highway 70 in Upper Franconia due to icy road conditions. The accident involved 29 vehicles, including a long-distance bus – a total of 15 people were injured.

In Eastern Westphalia, several trees fell on Sunday due to several centimeters of snow.

According to the police, the snowfall caused a total of 20 emergency situations, with ten centimeters of snow falling in some areas. In another accident, one person was seriously injured on the A72 and three people were slightly injured in a crash involving two cars on the A4.

Highway 7 northbound near Kassel had to be completely closed due to stranded vehicles on Sunday morning. Incidentally, several federal and state roads were closed in this region due to fallen trees. According to the Kassel police, the remediation and fire fighters were working at full strength.
