Chinese state television reported that Xi spoke with the French president to strengthen ties after the latter made an official visit to China in early April.
“China is still ready to maintain high-level trade relations with the French side,” Xi said, welcoming the fact that more and more French products are appearing on the Chinese market.
Xi also spoke about China’s willingness to strengthen cooperation with France in the UN and other international organizations. From November, China took over the presidency of the UN Security Council.
The leader of the world’s second largest economy also asked France to play a role in promoting positive China-EU relations.
China and the European Union must remain partners for mutually beneficial cooperation
Hszi said during the phone conversation.
The two leaders also discussed the war in the Gaza Strip and agreed that the situation must be avoided in any case, especially with regard to avoiding an even more serious humanitarian crisis.
Several European countries have already complained against China because, in their opinion, the legal regulations regarding foreign companies are not transparent. According to the European Commission, the European car industry is threatened by cheap Chinese electric cars.
