25.04.2024 – The first preview of the Hungarian military series, SEREG, has arrived. When we first heard that it was being prepared with the support of the Hungarian Defense Forces, we thought it was an expensive recruitment campaign. He was probably hoping for a situational comedy in which the 90’s series, also produced in Hungary, Angyalbőr, which was intended to be light-hearted, or the great American classic MASH. With such antecedents and the clear knocking of the title of the latter series, you can’t blame anyone who expected a comedy, but SEREG is by no means what it is.

The series looks really good

The title was intended as an acronym for the terms Service, Virtue, Order, Morality, Providence by the creators who also produced Elk*rtu. Megafilm produced the show with 865 million state subsidies, and the relatively high budget compared to the six episodes shows: there will hardly be any complaints about the visuals. According to the announcement of TV2, which broadcasts the series for the first time, the basis of the story will be a father-son conflict, and the climax will be the mission of the Hungarian Defense Forces in Iraq, which is also a kind of revenge campaign. The message of the series will be roughly how to overcome our limits to forge a team and how we can distinguish between good and bad.

SEREG is expected to be released in the last months of 2024, starring Balázs Csórics and Iván Kamarás. Other actors who will appear in it: Gábor Jászberényi, Ákos Orosz, Csaba Krisztik, Bán Blint and Péter Takátsy, also seen in the above-mentioned classic “Angyalbőrben”.
