By decree, the Kyiv government prohibited men between the ages of 18 and 60 from renewing their official documents at Ukrainian embassies abroad. According to the expert, this mostly encourages Ukrainians living abroad to renounce their Ukrainian citizenship and acquire a European (or other country) citizenship.
Ukraine expert Anton Bendarzhevskii reported on the decree adopted on Tuesday in a Facebook post. “If someone’s passport, with which they are legally staying abroad, expires, they cannot get a new one and have to go back to Ukraine. From where he will not be released again, because he is a man between the ages of 18 and 60…” – said the analyst.
As he wrote, ban is explained by the fight against evasion of mobilization. He added: how can a family that moved out well before 2022, say, be called a “mobilization avoider”? was – so he legally left the borders of the country – but since then he turned 18?” – asks Bendarzhevskij, who says that in the case of these groups there is no question of “evaders”, since they left the country completely legally.
“It’s a complete brain storm. It’s a dead end. All of this mostly encourages Ukrainians living abroad to renounce their Ukrainian citizenship and acquire a European (or other country) citizenship. They should rethink this immediately,” wrote the professional director of the Budapest Oeconomus Economic Research Foundation.
