President-elect Lai Ching-te (賴清德) delivered a speech Wednesday at the Touch Taiwan 2024 exhibition opening ceremony in Taipei. There, Lai emphasized that the display and semiconductor industries are boosting Taiwan’s economy.

Last year, Taiwan was the second largest globally in display technology shipments and production value, with an approximate production value of NT$1.12 trillion (US$ 34.4 billion). Lai stated that the government will assist businesses in continued growth and prosperity.

During his tenure as Premier in 2018, he was invited to AUO’s Taichung facility. Subsequently, he promoted a 5-year action plan for display technologies and applications with a budget of NT$17.7 billion (about US$ 543.4 million). Thanks to concerted efforts, the program has yielded fruitful results encompassing 216 projects. Lai also stated that Taiwan has established the world’s first Micro LED production line and is optimistic for continued development.

The Touch Taiwan “Smart Display Exhibition” runs from Wednesday, April 24 to Friday, April 26. It features 312 leading companies from 10 countries with over 800 booths, on the theme “Lead to Infinity: Leading the Infinite Future”.
