A minister of the Israeli government said that if he could, he would rather vote for Donald Trump than Joe Biden in the upcoming US presidential election. Amichai Chikli, minister of diaspora affairs and a member of Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud party, told Israel’s Kan that Biden is under very strong pressure to influence him and that it is “doing real damage” to Israeli-American relations.
Chikli noted that Biden’s current policy does not allow Israel to act in Rafah as the Israeli government sees fit, according to an analysis by The Guardian.
I don’t think the United States will project power under his leadership, and that’s something that hurts the state of Israel
said the Israeli politician. Israel has reportedly deployed additional artillery and armored personnel carriers near the Gaza Strip, suggesting it is preparing for a long-threatened army ground offensive against Rafah, the only place of relative safety for at least 1.4 million Palestinian civilians. We wrote earlier that it was set by Israel the date of the Rafah offensive. At the same time, the United States wants to dissuade Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu from launching a major attack on the city.
Why is Rafah important to Israel?Rafahi is the only border crossing not controlled by Israel, so aid flowed into the coastal enclave through it in the early stages of the war. According to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the city is the last bastion of Hamas. |
