Citizens of other EU states can also vote in Slovakia in the European Parliament (EP) elections in June if they have their permanent residence in Slovakia. However, they must apply for the vote by April 29. In this case, they can vote for Slovak EP candidates, and only in one country – the Ministry of the Interior informed on its website.

The foreign citizen will be included in the voter’s register in Slovakia if he applies for it and makes a declaration of honor. This must be done at the latest on the 40th day before the election, after which you can no longer be included in the electoral roll, but in this case you can still participate in the EP elections held in your own state. In the declaration, the applicant must state his most recent permanent residence in the EU and the electoral district in which he was registered in the last EP election, the Ministry of the Interior informed, adding that a new application must only be submitted if the voter has changed since then permanent address.

Voters listed in the voter register and living in other EU member states can also apply for a voter’s card if they are unable to vote in their polling station on the day of the election.

Application for inclusion in the voter register must be made in the municipality of permanent residence in Slovakia. Together with the application, the voter must submit a statement in which, among other things, he must state his last address in the EU country of which he is a citizen, as well as the constituency in which he was last registered. You must also declare that you vote only in the territory of Slovakia and that you have not been deprived of your right to vote. The ministry draws attention to the fact that if the voter registers in the voter register in another EU member state, as well as in Slovakia, he commits an offense for which a fine of 100 euros can be imposed.

In Slovakia, 23 parties and one coalition submitted their lists of candidates for the European Parliament elections, the vote will take place on June 8, and the citizens will elect 15 EP representatives for five years. The names of a maximum of two candidates can be circled on a list.
