Anne Hathaway is happy that the casting process is completely different today than when she was a young actor.

According to Hathaway, it used to be a common practice for producers to test the chemistry between two actors by asking them to kiss.

This happened to him too, and in a rather extreme way:

At the beginning of the 2000s – and this happened to me – it was considered average that two actors were asked to kiss at the casting to see if there was chemistry between them, which of course is the worst way to do it. I’ve had people say, “There’s 10 guys coming today and you’ve already got the part. Aren’t you excited to kiss them?” I was thinking “is there something wrong with me?” – because I wasn’t enthusiastic at all. It sounded more disgusting.

But the actress was afraid of being stigmatized by her behavior and instead put on a good image.

I was very young and I knew exactly how easy it is to lose everything when someone calls you “problematic” in the profession. So I pretended to be excited and went in. It wasn’t a show of strength on their part, no one did it out of spite. It was simply very different times, and now we think differently.
