21. Classic Transylvanian Hungarian Literature of the Carpathian Basin Prose Reading Competition

The 21st Transylvanian Classical Hungarian Literature Carpathian Basin Prose Reading Competition was organized by the Transylvanian Stars Literary Association in the conference room of the Csipke hotel in Kiskunhalas on April 19. The co-organizers of the event were: Pásztortűz Egyesület, Thorma János Museum, Kiskunhalas City Municipality, II. Ferenc Rákóczi Catholic High School and Technical School, Bibó István High School, Dékáni Árpád Vocational Training Center.

The competition is a literary event with the participation of primary and secondary school students, in the framework of which they read excerpts from the novel Give Me Back My Mountains by József Nyírő Uz Bence and Albert Wass. The Hungarian students from the highlands, led by Szilvia Mihacs and György Pallag, traveled to Kiskunhalas in the organization of the Kárpátia Sport Civic Association and with the support of the József Kossányi Elementary School in Szentpéter. The main patron of the event was László Kövér, President of the Hungarian Parliament.

In the role of the hostess, Anna Tóbiás greeted Fráter Oliver, the historian of the National Strategic Research Institute, László Téglás, the II. The director of Ferenc Rákóczi Catholic High School and Technical School, Gábor Bányai, the government commissioner responsible for the complex development of the Southern Alföld Economic Development Zone, the regional parliamentarian, Róbert Fülöp, the mayor of Kiskunhalas, Endré Kemény, János Kemény’s grandson and last but not least the actor András Sinkovics-Vitay, the event guest of honor.

At the ceremonial opening, Dr. Ottó Döme, president of the Transylvanian Stars Literary Association, said

the event was organized for the first time 21 years ago by the II. It was organized together with Ferenc Rákóczi Catholic High School and Technical College, and in 2014 the event grew into a Carpathian Basin event.

On this occasion, on March 21, 2014, together with guests and students from across the border, the Transylvanian Stars Tree was planted.

In his festive greeting, László Téglás explained that the 21st Classical Transylvanian Hungarian Literature Carpathian Basin Prose Reading Competition will be held in two categories. Competitors of both age groups will read excerpts from selected works, which will be presented based on the number drawn during registration.

In the cultural block, among others, Borbála Bukovszky recited József Kossányi’s poem Örök Magyarország. After the singing of our national prayer, the National Anthem, the competition could follow.

Within the framework of the opening, dr. Ottó Döme awarded the title of honorary member to the following persons: prof. dr. Eva Hózsa professor, retired university professor of the Department of Hungarian Language and Literature, Faculty of Arts, University of Novi Sad, dr. Hargita Horváth Futó professor, professor at the Department of Hungarian Language and Literature, Faculty of Arts, University of Novi Sad, Robert Philip, Mayor of the town of Kiskunhalas, Hard Endre, the grandson of János Kemény, the founder of Helikon, László Teglás, the II. Director of Ferenc Rákóczi Catholic High School and Technical College, György Pallag, President of the Upland Carpathian Sport Civic Association.

At the end of the festive event, Gábor Bányai declared the competition open, which took place in two separate localities.

The jury president of the primary school category was Mátyás Dráfi, the Kossuth and Jászai Marid award-winning actor from the Felvidék, while the jury president of the secondary school category was István Nagy, headmistress of Sándor Petőfi Primary School and Kindergarten in Kecskemét.

At the end of the ceremonial announcement of the results, those present sang the first verse of the speech, and the rest was performed by András Sinkovits-Vitay.

Then everyone marched out to the Tree of Transylvanian Stars, where András Sinkovits-Vitay recited his poem “Én hazám”, and then we remembered the writers of Transylvanian Helikon.
