The Felvidéki Hungarian Fine Arts Association announced a fine arts competition in 2023 Commemorating the 75th anniversary of the birth of the Kossuth Prize-winning writer Lajos Grendel (1948–2018). We sent the call for the fine arts competition to Hungarian and Hungarian artists across the border, so following the jury’s decision, 82 works from 58 artists from 4 countries will be exhibited. At the Grendel ’75 international exhibition, we present the works of artists from the Highlands, Southern Region, Transylvania and Hungary.

From the artists applying, mainly the generational works appearing in Grendel’s novels,
dealing with problems of national destiny and existence, presenting Central European absurdities
works, as well as portraits of Grendel, were expected.

The evaluation of the works taking into account aspects of the history of fine arts and literature
it happened. The jury: Kossuth Prize-winning poet Árpád Tózsér, József Attila Prize-winning writer László Tóth, corresponding member of the MMA, dr. habile Szunyogh László Ferenczy is a Béni Prize-winning sculptor, Tihamér Novotny is an art writer, Ágota Grendel, the writer’s widow, Éva Miglinczi is an art historian.

The fine art material is made exciting by the diversity of the Grendel portraits and the fact that a
how visual artists translate Grendel’s verbality into the language of visuality. The fine art exhibition Grendel ’75 opened in January on the occasion of the Day of Hungarian Culture at the Museum of Hungarian Culture in Slovakia and runs until April 28.

On Saturday, the 27th, art historian Éva Miglinczi, the curator of the exhibition, will be guiding the exhibition, which will be attended by several visual artists, including the creators of the works exhibited here.
