After Donald Trump became the first US president to face criminal charges, he has to deal with another inconvenience. The tenants of Trump Plaza, a 40-story high-rise located in New Rochelle, a suburb of New York, are satisfied that real estate prices fluctuate because of their namesake, so they are calling for the building to be renamed. Voting is still ongoing, reports The Guardian.

According to the newspaper, the renaming of the 194-apartment tower block would not only affect the residents of the building, as it would save the otherwise racially diverse neighborhood from having to encounter the name Trump, if only visually.

According to a resident of the area who spoke to the newspaper, he himself has been saying for a few years that the name Trump should be removed. According to him, the former president always had a bad reputation in New York: he builds, but does not pay his contractors. Even before he became president, he knew about it.

Trump Plaza condominium board chairman Greg Root says a quiet majority of owners support the name change. According to press reports, 24 people oppose the change, but this was proven in the case of only two apartments. This would not be the first time that the owners of a building have parted with Trump’s name, since 2016 it has also happened to a house in New York and a hotel in Toronto.

According to previous reports, after Trump became president, apartments in buildings bearing his name dropped in market value. However, the properties that got rid of the Trump name have again appreciated in value.
