This year’s goal of the demonstration and merry-go-round was for the next mayor of Budapest to implement the 12 points compiled by the Cycling Club, which can be used to create a city where everyone can ride a bike.
The organizers want this to be more than just a weekend program, the bike parade shows what a great place the city is, where anyone from young to old can ride a bike.
“We would like Budapest to be a bicycle city on the other 364 days of the year!” – said Gábor Kürti, president of the Hungarian Cycling Club.
The procession was again opened by Désirée Bonis, the ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Hungary, the world’s most cycling country has been supporting Hungarian cycling development and the I bike Budapest parade for more than 15 years. This year, the Embassy of the Kingdom of Denmark in Hungary will join the country’s largest bike parade as a supporter!
In preparation for the local government elections, the organizers also put together a 12-point package of development proposals, which, in their opinion, contains the measures absolutely necessary for the further spread of cycling in the next five-year local government cycle.
The points of the proposal are as follows:
- Creation of a bicycle budget frame proportional to turnover

- Speed and noise reduction in residential areas and district centers
- The development of suburban bicycle storage
- Further development of Bubi
- Speeding up suburban bicycle network developments
- Complete main bicycle network in the city center
- Campaigns promoting combined transport
- Data-based transport development, public accident database
- You can safely cycle the Pest wharf, Rákóczi street, Petőfi and Szabadság bridges
- Road improvements should be carried out safely for all road users
- The development of bicycle transport on BKK vehicles
