Rejection on live broadcast: the majority of the residents of Hered do not request from the window factory

As we wrote it, the mayor of Hered, András Ilkó-Tóth, published on Facebook that he is asking for the public’s opinion on what the locals would say if the settlement accepted the Spanish plant that produces windows from aluminum fittings. According to his announcement, the company wants to build an office building, a showroom and a factory in Sport Street.

“Of course, the establishment of such a plant has its advantages and disadvantages,” wrote the village manager.

– One of the advantages is that we would derive income from it, which we could use for our settlement: for the expansion of public lighting, sidewalks, public spaces, civil organizations, etc. It would create jobs and employ about ten people, so that those looking for work – if they are professionally qualified – could work locally. Companies attract companies. It is possible that more businesses will settle in the area over time, he listed.

At the same time, the mayor also mentioned possible disadvantages. For example, that vehicle traffic can change significantly, so noise pollution and the environmental load can increase, and that the risk of road accidents increases in direct proportion with the increase in the number of vehicles. The image of a “rural” settlement may disappear, he wrote. He also noted that if the local workforce is not suitable for the company, they could possibly employ foreign workers in their locality.

– Please answer the question after considering the advantages and disadvantages: do you support a Spanish window manufacturing company starting production in Sport Street in our town? – he asked, indicating where the questionnaires can be submitted until April 18. Within a short period of time during the post, many local residents expressed their opinions with their full names, and most of them expressed their concerns about the investment.

After the deadline, András Ilkó-Tóth and his colleagues broadcast live, a on Facebook the ballot boxes containing the votes were opened and the votes were counted. Based on these, 129 said no to the investment, while 25 would support it.

– I ask the representative body to take the opinion of the population into account during the decision. This is how I do it – the first person in the municipality commented on what happened. During his post, many people approved his position, but there were also voices that said that the expression of opinion presumably does not reflect the will of the majority, since only a small proportion of the adults living in the village filled out the form. At the same time, one of the counterarguments is that everyone would have had the opportunity to do so.
