Germany has promised Ukraine an additional 1.3 billion euro military aid package, which includes, among other things, four additional IRIS-T air defense systems, as well as 20,000 pieces of 155 millimeter caliber artillery ammunition and anti-tank weapons.
The new aid package was announced by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius on Tuesday in Kyiv, during a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart, Rustem Umerov, the Ukrainian news portal Yevropeyzka Pravda wrote.
“This is the fifth such package since last winter. I am sure that it will help in the fight against Russian aggression”
– emphasized the minister, according to the Ukrainian public television Suzpilne.
At the same time, this is the third aid package that includes the IRIS anti-aircraft missile system. Three systems from the first package have been delivered so far, and the fourth is expected to arrive this winter. The second package, also consisting of four systems, is planned for 2024, and the third for 2025.
The German Defense Minister arrived on Tuesday morning for an unannounced visit to Ukraine. Pistorius previously confirmed press reports that Germany will double military aid to Kyiv in 2024 to eight billion euros.
