Monday Injury Report
The Seahawks did not practice on Monday afternoon following the loss to the Rams but did release an estimated injury report had they practiced. The two most notable injuries from the Rams game were Geno Smith and Kenneth Walker III. Walker exited the game in the first quarter with an oblique strain and would not return while Smith left the game in the 3rd quarter with an elbow injury after taking a hit from Aaron Donald. Smith was able to return for the final drive and led the team down the field for an opportunity for a game-winning field goal. As for his status for the Thanksgiving matchup against the 49ers, the starting quarterback is giving his best effort to return in time for Thursday. “It’s going to be a couple of days to make sure that we let him get back and it quiets down,” said head coach Pete Carroll when asked about Smith. “There is no structural issue there, but he has a sore elbow this morning. They are doing everything they can to work through that and we’ll see how it goes.”
As for Kenneth Walker III, he may need more time to get back than Smith. “They just confirmed that he has an oblique strain. Those are the kind of strains where it takes some time to figure out,” said coach Carroll. “We have to see how he does in the next couple of days and see what that means. We don’t know yet.” While they are unsure about his status for Week 12, putting the second year back on injured reserve isn’t in consideration at this moment.
Safety Jamal Adams was held out of the Rams game due to pain in his knee, but he would have been limited in the first practice of the week and is trying to return for Thursday. The team is hoping that the next couple of days will give him enough time to get back for the matchup against the 49ers. A few more key players in the secondary would have been limited in practice as Riq Woolen (shoulder), Tre Brown (foot), and Coby Bryant (toe) were given a limited participation designation. Bryant has spent the past two months on injured reserve due to a toe injury but was just designated to return to practice this week.
Tackle Abraham Lucas continues to make progress in making his way back onto the field as he was given a full participant designation on Monday afternoon. Lucas has not played since suffering a knee injury in the season opener against the Rams. His return would give the offense another anchor on the offensive line.
The 49ers aren’t dealing with as many injuries as the Seahawks, but they have two key defenders dealing with issues. All-Pro safety Talanoa Hufanga suffered a torn ACL in the team’s win on Sunday which will force him to miss the rest of the season. Hufanga has been one of the defense’s top playmakers since being drafted by the team in 2021. Their top free agent acquisition defensive tackle Javon Hargrave would have been limited in practice on Monday had there been one due to a thumb injury.
