Next Wednesday, May 31, Xie Fei will hold a master class at Babeș-Bolyai University. At the same time, the participants can watch the film with which the Chinese director won the main prize of the Berlinale jury in 1993.

After holding a master class organized by the MMA in Budapest on May 22, film director Xie Fei, a professor at the Beijing Film Academy, is coming to Cluj. His directorial career spans more than four decades, most of his works are adaptations of Chinese novels. In his films, he usually talks about ordinary people who fight a windmill battle against the restrictions dictated by their society. His latest book was published last year, in which he explains the basics of filmmaking based on his own life journey and experiences.

In his master class in Cluj, Xie Fei will talk about the problems of contemporary Chinese film production, the aspects of film direction, production and distribution in the People’s Republic of China, and at the same time, there will be an opportunity to get to know the director’s rich filmography.

The program starts at 12:00 with the master class, from 12:30 it continues in the form of questions and answers, then from 12:45 the Ladies of the pond of scented gardenst (Xiāng hún nǚ / Woman Sesame Oil Maker obsession The Women from the Lake of Scented Souls) can be viewed. The Golden Bear-awarded 1993, 105-minute work will be screened in the original Mandarin language with English subtitles.

The event is open to all interested parties and is organized by the Babeș-Bolyai University Theater and Film Faculty and the Cluj-Napoca Confucius Cultural Center. The venue is the faculty building at Farkas utca 4 (room 43).
