Today is a sad day, as we have to say goodbye to one of LucasArts’ veterans. Matthew Shell was with the company for 20 years, during which time he worked on more than 60 games, so he was a key player in many of our player experiences, even if we didn’t know it.
Announced by Geoff Keighley https://twitter.com/geoffkeighley/status/1784300246224552207?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1784300246224552207%7Ctwgr%5E63a2083e2f32cb516efc08f7164f6dc787463318%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.videogameschronicle.com%2Fnews%2Fveteran-lucasarts-lead-matthew-shell-has-passed-away%2F, that Matthew Shell, a veteran and key figure of the LucasArts studio, died of a heart attack earlier this week. Keighley says in his post that if you’ve played any Star Wars game in the last two decades, it’s certain that Shell had a hand in the game’s creation. His most recent project was 2023’s Star Wars: Jedi Survivor, where he served as the game’s director of marketing.
Several people remembered Shell on X, everyone described him as a great person, a kind, loyal and hard-working person who always managed to put a smile on other people’s faces. Rest in peace my friend and may the Force be with you.“
